Review of Hard Sell by Kendall Morgan

Hard SellHard Sell by Kendall Morgan

My rating: 2 of 5 stars

I received a free copy of this book, in exchange for an honest review.

I loved the idea behind this. Closeted aging ex-pornstar living a lonely anonynous life as real estate agent in small rural town meets younger out and proud man. Unfortunately the execution lacked.

Wes Mitchell aka ex porn star Wes Western is a real estate agent living in a small town. He is not out, uses his assistant as his beard and has anonymous glory hole sex at the local porn emporium. Jesse is in his early tbirties and meets Wes at a barbeque at a friends house. The two hit if off, but Jesse is not about to be anyones dirty little secret.

The author had a lot of great ideas, and a lot of minor plot points, which would have been great in a longer book: Wes coming to terms with his past, closure over his ex lover, coming out and aligning his past and present. But for a short story like this, it was too much. It made the story abrupt and disjointed and we never got to explore what actually happened. Wes character growth happens without the reader actually experiencing it and so does the relationship between him and Jesse. It made it very hard to engage in the characters for me as a reader.

I really liked the idea and would probably try this author again, but a longer novel next time. 2-2.5 stars.
