Review of An Invitation by Jay Northcote

An InvitationAn Invitation by Jay Northcote

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Steamy little piece of office erotica for you. A HFN ending, but as this story is short, it is mainly just hot office sex. And really, where’s the downside?

An enjoyable night time snack, with a side of spanking, to warm your sheets before sleep.

This was a hot and steamy little piece of erotica, about a shoplifter and the security guard who catches him red handed.

It was short and filthy and very recommendable as a quick bedtime read. Due to it’s lack of length there is not much plot or character development, this was basically PWP, but very enjoyable and it does leave the reader on a HFN note.

A fun little snack of a story, which left me wanting more and will be looking up other stories from this author.

Review of Festival of Lights by D.L. King

Marc & Judith are getting ready for Hanukkah, Marc is impatient to find out what is hiding in all the presents, but doesn’t know that Judith has arranged a special treat for him, involving another two couples and a play party.

This was a sweet little story about an established couple and their Hanukkah preparations and celebrations, but it was billed as LGBTQ erotica, which it is not. It’s certainly not LGBTQ – yes, yes, one of the couple’s attending the play party is same sex, but other than their names, they hardly figure in the story – and even though there is a spanking scene and a group scene involving hot wax there was no real erotic content to the scene – except for the submissive partners being naked…

Sweet story, interesting to learn about Hanukkah traditions, but based on what I had been expecting, quite a disappointment.

Review of Christmas with Danny Fit by Amy Lane

Christmas with Danny FitChristmas with Danny Fit by Amy Lane

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This is a favourite holiday re-read of mine, so I guess it was really about time, that I actually reviewed it.

Chubby, shy and awkward accountant Kit, still a virgin and living at home with his unpleasant mother at 30, get’s a cute new young assistant, Jesse, and suddenly feel the urge to try and change his life.

Starting a new work out regime through excercise DVD’s by Fitness Guru Danny Fit leads to changes everywhere in Kit’s life. His sexuality suddenly awakes, he moves out of his mother’s house and he decides to get a cat.

These new changes, and some prodding from Jesse, leads to Kit experiencing his very first real friendship. Both men are lonely and a bit gun shy, but their friendship and relationship is lovely and this story is a lovely little warm holiday romance with only a little bit of angst.

Review of All about the Boy by P.A. Friday

All About the BoyAll About the Boy by P.A. Friday

My rating: 3 of 5 stars

I received a free copy of this book, in exchange for an honest review.

This is a quickly read erotica anthology with 3 very short stories, all containing some kind of BDSM elements. Overall I would probably rate the anthology 2.5-3 stars.

The first story: Pretty Little Straight Boy, could have been a 4 star read, if not for the lack of length. The shortness of the story made it very rushed, and I lacked the emotions between the two. Stefan going from ‘ladies man’ to ‘I want to suck you’ without any delay was a bit too abrupt to be believable for me. 3 stars.

The second story: Making amends, I had issues with. Not due to one of the MC’s having sex with someone outside the relationship, but due to the circumstances surrounding it. I don’t mind dub con stories, but it put some serious doubts in my mind about the relationship between Jake and Allessandro, the way their dynamic worked made no sense to me. Being ‘given’ to another dom for service is not unheard of, but Jake didn’t want to. It gave him nothing, and he found no pleasure in pleasing his master this way either… Maybe it was again the lack of length creating difficulties, maybe I just needed more background story between the two? 2 stars.

The third and final story: Office Politics, could have been some seriously hot office porn with voyerism and exhibitionism thrown in, but it took a weird violent turn that didn’t really make sense to me. I enjoyed Kel and Peter together, but Dean completely ruined the story for me. 2.5 stars

All in all, it was well written erotica, and easily read, but when the kinks turn rough I need more depth of character than what I was given here. Would still recommend it for someone looking for a quick and dirty night cap with a rough twist.

Review of The 13th Hex by Jordan L. Hawk

The 13th Hex (Hexworld, #0.5)The 13th Hex by Jordan L. Hawk

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

A fun and cute prequel to an interesting new series. 4 stars

Jordan L. Hawk is a great storyteller and even if this little gem is a bit too short and therefore feels a tiny bit rushed, it was still interesting enough to hook me into this world.

I had already bought the first book in the Hexworld series, based on the autbor’s name alone. I adored her Whyborne and Griffin series, and can’t wait to immerse myself into another paranormal historical universe.

Review of The Troll Whisperer by Sera Trevor

The Troll WhispererThe Troll Whisperer by Sera Trevor

Oscar is an asshat. Seriously. A real jerk. He is nasty both to himself and others and his favourite hobby is pissing people off, either by online trolling or by deliberately acting up and defying authorities.

Noah is his complete opposite. He is clean, tidy, caring and sweet. The two cross paths both online and in real life. Online Oscar behaves like his usual jerk self where as he is actually being kind in real life, admittedly to get laid at first, but their accidental meeting blooms into a friendship with benefits.

I really really enjoyed the first 75% or so of this story. Oscar was a real piece of work, nasty and destructive, though not only towards others but also toward himself. To see him try and conform to please Noah was sweet.
Unfortunately the author ran out of steam (or time?) around that point and the last 25% became too rushed. Everything wrapped up nicely with a bow, but without the care and depth that the first three quarters of the story gave us.

There is a short sequel though, so I am hoping that will give us a bit more.
